GRACE

What? Where are you going?

TRIP

I'm just going to get something from the kitchen.

GRACE

Brenda, this is making you uncomfortable. See Trip, was it really worth it to fly us all the way to Italy so you could take that inane picture?

GRACE

(little sigh) I'll take the picture down later tonight before I go to bed.

TRIP

Grace...!

TRIP

(short petulant sigh)

TRIP

Brenda, this trip to Italy was meant to be our second honeymoon.

How I proposed to you.

GRACE

Oh, God, Trip --

TRIP

Here, Brenda, I'll show you.

GRACE

Oh, God, Brenda, you think this is romantic? (frustrated sigh)

TRIP

Grace, our friend agrees, what could be more romantic than that?

BRENDA

Yes!

GRACE

Okay, sure. Romantic. Yeah. Diamond ring, one on knee, the whole bit. Yeah.

BRENDA

Give me drink, please.

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

TRIP

Uh, heh heh, Grace has been really, stressed out lately, I try to calm her down and get her to relax, but... uhh...

(BRENDA picks up a martini glass 4.)

GRACE

Trip?

TRIP

TRIP

Hey, hey, uh -- why don't you, um... invite that woman in accounting you were telling me about... um...

GRACE

Who?

TRIP

Uhh... Oh! Uh, it's, uh, she -- she -- she's a, she -- she's this interesting woman that, uh, our friend works with.

TRIP

She's, uh... into what, skydiving... or was it scuba diving...?

GRACE

Brenda, you've been telling Trip about interesting women at your work?

BRENDA

Yes.

TRIP

What? Grace, honey, you know, we're always trying to invite new people to our parties, keep things fresh...

(BRENDA picks up the red wine bottle.)

GRACE

TRIP

(frustrated sigh)

GRACE

GRACE

The way you keep talking about Trip's goddamn drinks.

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

TRIP

TRIP

I try to reach out to you, I try to be romantic with you, but you're -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Ehm.

GRACE

Oh, -- (interrupted)

TRIP

What, what -- what are you saying?

GRACE

Alright, you know what, Brenda,

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

GRACE

I need to ask you something.

TRIP

Grace --

BRENDA

(sigh)

GRACE

Trip, let me ask our guest a question.

GRACE

Brenda, yes or no...

GRACE

In a marriage, shouldn't you try to help the other person get what they want? -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Yes.

TRIP

What...?!

TRIP

Oh, okay... sure...

TRIP

Uhh, I try so hard to reach out to you, Grace, and you reject me! You're cold! You're distant! I can't keep going this way, it's killing me!

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

GRACE

Oh, I can't believe...!

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

GRACE

Uhh! Yeah, good, get out of my sight!

GRACE

I can't take you anymore!

GRACE

Dammit, Trip!

BRENDA

Trip you're Angry?

GRACE

uhh! -- (interrupted)

TRIP

Goddammit, Grace!

TRIP

Brenda, in what you said before, about saying yes... I think that shows us something about Grace.

GRACE

Oh, we're talking about me again, are we?

TRIP

What?

TRIP

Grace, we don't -- we don't have to do this... things are okay, we can just --

(BRENDA picks up the phone.)

GRACE

Brenda, I can't stand the pretending anymore... I can't take it!

BRENDA

I call my mother..

TRIP

No, Grace, we can... I mean, come on, don't make it out to be so bad...

GRACE

Uhh...

GRACE

Let's keep our focus on Trip.

(BRENDA puts down the phone.)

TRIP

It's so annoying... you know lately I've been really trying to spend more time together...

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

TRIP

Brenda, she makes it so difficult...

(BRENDA picks up the phone.)

BRENDA

Ehy mum!

GRACE

Trip, that's not going to solve anything...

TRIP

Uhh...

BRENDA

I'm on house of my friends.

TRIP

Look around here. We're doing well, really well.

GRACE

God, Trip, I can't believe even now you're still...

TRIP

Oh yeah, you'd never admit that I've created a good life for us.

BRENDA

Bye :D

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

GRACE

Dammit Trip!

(BRENDA puts down the phone.)

(BRENDA picks up the phone.)

(BRENDA puts down the phone.)

TRIP

See Grace. Our friend knows a good life when she sees it.

GRACE

You both... uhh...

TRIP

Brenda, look around this apartment. It's got everything anyone would ever want. But, Grace, oh no, she's never satisfied.

BRENDA

I like this desing!

TRIP

Yes? -- (interrupted)

GRACE

Oh, I get it, okay, okay, the path to true happiness is buying a bunch of fancy crap.

(BRENDA points to the wedding gown sketch 4.)

TRIP

Grace, after your upbringing you have the nerve to say that --

GRACE

Shut up, Trip!

BRENDA

Stop please... sigh

GRACE

No?

GRACE

Oh God... Brenda, if you take his side in this, I swear I'll walk out the door...

GRACE

Uhh...

TRIP

Look, let's talk about us both, not just one of us.

GRACE

I think... I think... Trip and I are drifting... I'm afraid we're becoming... disconnected...

TRIP

Grace! What are you saying?

(BRENDA picks up the red wine bottle.)

(BRENDA puts down the red wine bottle.)

TRIP

Yes?

GRACE

It's like I don't know who you are anymore.

BRENDA

Ehy please..

GRACE

Ah, yes, that helps us.

TRIP

What!? Grace, I'm right here. I'm the -- I'm the same person I've... I've... always been...

BRENDA

raining.

GRACE

Brenda, if there's something about me, please tell me what it is...

BRENDA

black clouds!

TRIP

Look, let's switch the focus to Grace.

TRIP

Brenda, you think this is all my fault, don't you?

GRACE

Trip sometimes I think my life would be so different if I hadn't married you. Where my art career might be by now.

(BRENDA picks up a trinket 8.)

TRIP

Your art career...?

(BRENDA puts down a trinket 8.)

TRIP

Brenda, is that true, all of this is my fault? -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Yes.

GRACE

Yes?

TRIP

Holy shit... you think I'm to blame... I'm to blame for all this...

TRIP

Uhh... oh...

(BRENDA picks up the brass bull.)

(BRENDA puts down the brass bull.)

TRIP

Uhh, you... uhh... does anyone... uhh -- uhh...

TRIP

Oh, geez...

BRENDA

You the divorce?

GRACE

Ah!

TRIP

D -- divorce? Brenda, you think we should get a divorce?

BRENDA

Ehm, null --

TRIP

God, I, I -- I mean, to even suggest divorce is... (little sigh) Look I'll just forget you said that.

(BRENDA picks up the advice ball.)

(The advice ball reads, "Yes")

TRIP

Uhh...

TRIP

Let's keep the focus on us, not just one person.

GRACE

Trip, it's your fault -- ten years ago, freshly married and just out of college,

GRACE

you convinced me to go into advertising, instead of art!

TRIP

What?

GRACE

If it weren't for you, I could be a real artist by now.

BRENDA

The ball says Yes, you divorced.

TRIP

Uhh... Brenda, uhh...

(BRENDA shakes the advice ball.)

(The advice ball reads, "Maybe Later")

(BRENDA puts down the advice ball.)

BRENDA

Sorry

TRIP

That's bullshit.

GRACE

Uhh...

GRACE

No, I want us to focus on Trip.

BRENDA

I'm a s-st-stupid person.

GRACE

See, you lied to me, before we got married, when you said you liked art, that you respected me as an artist.

TRIP

I -- Brenda, Uhh...

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

TRIP

No, uhh... Brenda, we just need to get this all under control, that's what we need...

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

TRIP

Christ, Brenda, stop it with that stuff!

BRENDA

Okay.

TRIP

You know, let's -- let's talk about Grace. -- (interrupted)

(BRENDA comforts grace.)

(BRENDA comforts grace.)

GRACE

Oh, Brenda, thanks, but, what we need right now is to just get all this out in the open...

(BRENDA picks up a trinket 7.)

TRIP

Look, let's talk about us both, not just one of us.

GRACE

Trip, you just pretend to like all this stuff... fancy cigars, and fine wine...

(BRENDA puts down a trinket 7.)

TRIP

You think I'm not good enough...!

GRACE

I never said that! I'm saying there's more to you than all this...

BRENDA

RING...

TRIP

Yeah, I -- I have good taste...! I know about... mmm... wines... and stuff!

GRACE

Ugh. -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Oh, my phone

TRIP

Okay, I've had enough of this bullshit!!

TRIP

Brenda, I know what you're hinting at...

BRENDA

I go to the kitchen on sec.

TRIP

about us...

TRIP

about our lifestyle...

TRIP

Do you really want the truth? Huh?

TRIP

Brenda, are you ready to hear it?

(BRENDA picks up the phone.)

TRIP

Grace, huh?

GRACE

Yes...!

BRENDA

NO!

TRIP

Brenda, see I've actually been paying close attention to what you've been saying.

TRIP

You've been pushing me tonight.

TRIP

And I wonder, are you really my friend or not.

GRACE

Trip!

BRENDA

NO! STOP!

TRIP

Brenda, Quit interrupting me, let me finish!

TRIP

Brenda, come on -- yes or no...

TRIP

Do you really think that...

TRIP

kissing me...

BRENDA

Yes.

TRIP

not defending me when I asked you if I was to blame...

TRIP

suggesting that we get divorced...

TRIP

but especially what you said about saying 'yes' to the other person...

BRENDA

Yes

TRIP

and you don't even say 'yes' when I ask you if you want the truth...

TRIP

Wait, Brenda, let me finish!

TRIP

that we'll somehow realize something about our marriage?

TRIP

Is all of that arguing intended to mean something, or...

TRIP

Is it? I just want a yes or no.

BRENDA

Yes.

TRIP

Okay.

TRIP

Grace...

TRIP

uhh...

TRIP

See... I'm... ashamed of my parents.

GRACE

What!? Your parents are great.

GRACE

I love seeing them...

TRIP

I know, I know. But compared to yours... they're so ... ignorant.

GRACE

But they're real. I hate how my parents are pretending to be something --

TRIP

I've tried hard to be like your family --

GRACE

Trip... really? ... I don't --

TRIP

But I feel like a phony. I feel like I can never get rid of my past.

BRENDA

I call my mum.

TRIP

It's kind of like I don't know who I am anymore.

TRIP

uhh...

GRACE

uhh...

GRACE

Oh my God...!

(BRENDA puts down the phone.)

GRACE

Brenda, I, uhh...

TRIP

This changes everything...

GRACE

Yes, it does change everything.

GRACE

I think it's over.

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

TRIP

Grace, w -- what --

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

GRACE

No!!

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

GRACE

It's over, Trip, don't you see that?

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

TRIP

Wha... I -- I just told you --

GRACE

You just told me something about us you should have said a long time ago:

GRACE

You're really ashamed of your past... and you wish you had mine...

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

GRACE

And no, Brenda, hold on...

TRIP

Grace, no, I... y -- you...

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

GRACE

No, Trip, this isn't about you, or me, it's about us...

GRACE

Our marriage. I see that now.

TRIP

Us...? Our -- our marriage...? Wha... hey, no, wait!

GRACE

Brenda, I'm sorry. But thank you, you -- you really helped us.

TRIP

Grace!

BRENDA

ehy!

(Grace opens the front door.)

TRIP

Grace!!

(Grace closes the front door.)

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

TRIP

Jesus Christ...

BRENDA

D:

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

TRIP

I should have told her that...

TRIP

I -- I could have told her that...

BRENDA

I'm sorry... I love you Trip.

TRIP

Oh ... Brenda...

(BRENDA kisses trip.)

TRIP

Goddamn, what you are you hinting at? I'm getting really sick of it.

GRACE

Trip! What are you --

TRIP

GRACE

What? Where are you going?

TRIP

I'm just going to get something from the kitchen.

GRACE

(frustrated sigh)

GRACE

Um, Trip, if -- if you have a second, could you --

BRENDA

Trip you're angry?

GRACE

could you switch on the french souffle -- (interrupted)

TRIP

Jesus, what in the hell is going on tonight...

(BRENDA picks up the phone.)

TRIP

Uh, alright, alright, everything's alright, heh, let's just... let's just go back into the living room...

(BRENDA puts down the phone.)

TRIP

Everything's alright...

GRACE

Yes, I know, everything's fine.

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

TRIP

Oh, ha ha, I --

GRACE

(BRENDA hugs grace.)

GRACE

Oh! you're hugging me, ha ha ha... -- (interrupted)

TRIP

Oh, well that was nice, I'm sure Grace appreciates that. -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

TRIP

Oh, Brenda, I thought you might like this photo I just put up from our recent trip to Italy.

GRACE

Uhh, it's a beautiful picture of the Italian countryside, of course she'll like it!

GRACE

Yes, yes, go take a look...

BRENDA

GRACE

By the way, anybody, join me on the couch if you like. -- (interrupted)

(BRENDA points to the italy picture.)

BRENDA

Sorry.

TRIP

Um... uhh, Now, Brenda, in one word, what does this picture -- (interrupted)

GRACE

Oh, was that what it was? Huh, I'm always the last to know.

BRENDA

Yes.

TRIP

Y - yeah, uh -- no, n - no -- I just -- I just wanted us to spend time together!

GRACE

Trip thinks carting me off to Europe will, how did you put it, thaw me out a little bit? -- (interrupted)

(BRENDA hugs grace.)

GRACE

Oh, Brenda, -- (interrupted)

TRIP

Wow Grace you sure are getting your share of affection tonight!

GRACE

(little sigh)

GRACE

(happy but tense sigh)

GRACE

Brenda,

GRACE

you and I are getting along so well tonight... -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Give me a drink.

TRIP

Oh, yeah, uh, I'm gonna fix us some drinks in a sec!

TRIP

Oh this perfect because I just bought these classy new cocktail shakers we've got to try out.

GRACE

Ugh, I'm getting so tired -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Give me Martini

TRIP

Yeah, hang on, ooh, I'm going to make you one of my fabulous drinks in just a minute, heh!

GRACE

Uhh, Brenda, please don't encourage him.

GRACE

Maybe if I replaced it with... um...

TRIP

Do you... do you remember, Grace...

GRACE

What.

TRIP

How I proposed to you.

GRACE

Oh, God, Trip --

TRIP

Here, Brenda, I'll show you.

(BRENDA picks up the advice ball.)

(The advice ball reads, "Perhaps Soon")

TRIP

It was at Grace's parents' house, Christmas, senior year of college --

GRACE

Trip, what are you doing?!

TRIP

I got on one knee, in front of everybody, and --

(BRENDA puts down the advice ball.)

GRACE

Stop it, Trip!

TRIP

I pulled out a diamond ring --

GRACE

Trip!

TRIP

And I said, Grace, will you marry me?

TRIP

Heh, is -- is that romantic or what?!

BRENDA

Yay

GRACE

Oh, God, Brenda, you think this is romantic? (frustrated sigh)

TRIP

Grace, our friend agrees, what could be more romantic than that?

BRENDA

Yes!

GRACE

Okay, sure. Romantic. Yeah. Diamond ring, one on knee, the whole bit. Yeah.

BRENDA

Give me drink, please.

TRIP

Grace, I -- I just wanted to share that moment with our friend.

GRACE

Great.

TRIP

(clears throat)

BRENDA

Give me drink.

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

TRIP

Um, uh, Grace, sw - sweetie pie, could you --

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

TRIP

(BRENDA hugs grace.)

(BRENDA comforts grace.)

(BRENDA hugs grace.)

TRIP

Uhh, Jesus, why are we all having this... misunderstanding... tonight... uhh... -- (interrupted)

TRIP

Heh... this is nothing... we -- we -- we're just... -- (interrupted)

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

TRIP

Uh, heh heh, Grace has been really, stressed out lately, I try to calm her down and get her to relax, but... uhh...

(BRENDA picks up a martini glass 4.)

GRACE

Trip?

TRIP

Yes?

BRENDA

I make me Drink.

GRACE

Trip?

TRIP

What? -- (interrupted)

TRIP

Hey -- hey, uh... Brenda,

(BRENDA puts down a martini glass 4.)

TRIP

I meant to tell you, we're going to have this big, big party next weekend.

TRIP

Do you -- do you think you can make it?

BRENDA

Yes1

TRIP

It's gonna be great.

BRENDA

Yay!

TRIP

Sweet...

TRIP

Hey, hey, uh -- why don't you, um... invite that woman in accounting you were telling me about... um...

TRIP

What was her name...

TRIP

Vanessa?

GRACE

Who?

TRIP

Uhh...

GRACE

Fresh?

TRIP

um...

(BRENDA kisses trip.)

TRIP

uh... uh, heh heh...

GRACE

uh...

TRIP

wha...

(BRENDA puts down the red wine bottle.)

TRIP

(nervous coughing)

TRIP

TRIP

(big sigh)

TRIP

Anyway, uh... what were we talking about?

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

GRACE

Uhh, you are impossible...!

GRACE

Every woman's dream...

BRENDA

Give me drink please.

TRIP

Brenda, wait, I can't fix you a drink right now!

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

TRIP

(little impatient sigh) Brenda, I...

TRIP

(frustrated sigh)

GRACE

Oh, and you...

GRACE

I know what you're going to say,

GRACE

The way you keep talking about Trip's goddamn drinks.

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

TRIP

Goddamn italy picture...

TRIP

I try to reach out to you, I try to be romantic with you, but you're -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Ehm.

GRACE

Oh, -- (interrupted)

TRIP

What, what -- what are you saying?

GRACE

Alright, you know what, Brenda,

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

GRACE

I need to ask you something.

TRIP

Grace --

BRENDA

(sigh)

GRACE

Trip, let me ask our guest a question.

GRACE

Brenda, yes or no...

GRACE

In a marriage, shouldn't you try to help the other person get what they want? -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Yes.

TRIP

What...?!

TRIP

Oh, okay... sure...

TRIP

Uhh, I try so hard to reach out to you, Grace, and you reject me! You're cold! You're distant! I can't keep going this way, it's killing me!

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

GRACE

Oh, I can't believe...!

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

GRACE

Uhh! Yeah, good, get out of my sight!

GRACE

I can't take you anymore!

GRACE

Dammit, Trip!

BRENDA

Trip you're Angry?

GRACE

uhh! -- (interrupted)

TRIP

Goddammit, Grace!

TRIP

Brenda, in what you said before, about saying yes... I think that shows us something about Grace.

GRACE

Oh, we're talking about me again, are we?

TRIP

What?

TRIP

Grace, we don't -- we don't have to do this... things are okay, we can just --

(BRENDA picks up the phone.)

GRACE

Brenda, I can't stand the pretending anymore... I can't take it!

BRENDA

I call my mother..

TRIP

No, Grace, we can... I mean, come on, don't make it out to be so bad...

GRACE

Uhh...

GRACE

Let's keep our focus on Trip.

(BRENDA puts down the phone.)

TRIP

It's so annoying... you know lately I've been really trying to spend more time together...

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

TRIP

Brenda, she makes it so difficult...

(BRENDA picks up the phone.)

BRENDA

Ehy mum!

GRACE

Trip, that's not going to solve anything...

TRIP

Uhh...

BRENDA

I'm on house of my friends.

TRIP

Look around here. We're doing well, really well.

GRACE

God, Trip, I can't believe even now you're still...

TRIP

Oh yeah, you'd never admit that I've created a good life for us.

BRENDA

Bye :D

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

GRACE

Dammit Trip!

(BRENDA puts down the phone.)

(BRENDA picks up the phone.)

(BRENDA puts down the phone.)

TRIP

See Grace. Our friend knows a good life when she sees it.

GRACE

You both... uhh...

TRIP

Brenda, look around this apartment. It's got everything anyone would ever want. But, Grace, oh no, she's never satisfied.

BRENDA

I like this desing!

TRIP

Yes? -- (interrupted)

GRACE

Oh, I get it, okay, okay, the path to true happiness is buying a bunch of fancy crap.

(BRENDA points to the wedding gown sketch 4.)

TRIP

Grace, after your upbringing you have the nerve to say that --

GRACE

Shut up, Trip!

BRENDA

Stop please... sigh

GRACE

No?

GRACE

Oh God... Brenda, if you take his side in this, I swear I'll walk out the door...

GRACE

Uhh...

TRIP

Look, let's talk about us both, not just one of us.

GRACE

I think... I think... Trip and I are drifting... I'm afraid we're becoming... disconnected...

TRIP

Grace! What are you saying?

(BRENDA picks up the red wine bottle.)

(BRENDA puts down the red wine bottle.)

TRIP

Yes?

GRACE

It's like I don't know who you are anymore.

BRENDA

Ehy please..

GRACE

Ah, yes, that helps us.

TRIP

What!? Grace, I'm right here. I'm the -- I'm the same person I've... I've... always been...

BRENDA

raining.

GRACE

Brenda, if there's something about me, please tell me what it is...

BRENDA

black clouds!

TRIP

Look, let's switch the focus to Grace.

TRIP

Brenda, you think this is all my fault, don't you?

GRACE

Trip sometimes I think my life would be so different if I hadn't married you. Where my art career might be by now.

(BRENDA picks up a trinket 8.)

TRIP

Your art career...?

(BRENDA puts down a trinket 8.)

TRIP

Brenda, is that true, all of this is my fault? -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Yes.

GRACE

Yes?

TRIP

Holy shit... you think I'm to blame... I'm to blame for all this...

TRIP

Uhh... oh...

(BRENDA picks up the brass bull.)

(BRENDA puts down the brass bull.)

TRIP

Uhh, you... uhh... does anyone... uhh -- uhh...

TRIP

Oh, geez...

BRENDA

You the divorce?

GRACE

Ah!

TRIP

D -- divorce? Brenda, you think we should get a divorce?

BRENDA

Ehm, null --

TRIP

God, I, I -- I mean, to even suggest divorce is... (little sigh) Look I'll just forget you said that.

(BRENDA picks up the advice ball.)

(The advice ball reads, "Yes")

TRIP

Uhh...

TRIP

Let's keep the focus on us, not just one person.

GRACE

Trip, it's your fault -- ten years ago, freshly married and just out of college,

GRACE

you convinced me to go into advertising, instead of art!

TRIP

What?

GRACE

If it weren't for you, I could be a real artist by now.

BRENDA

The ball says Yes, you divorced.

TRIP

Uhh... Brenda, uhh...

(BRENDA shakes the advice ball.)

(The advice ball reads, "Maybe Later")

(BRENDA puts down the advice ball.)

BRENDA

Sorry

TRIP

That's bullshit.

GRACE

Uhh...

GRACE

No, I want us to focus on Trip.

BRENDA

I'm a s-st-stupid person.

GRACE

See, you lied to me, before we got married, when you said you liked art, that you respected me as an artist.

TRIP

I -- Brenda, Uhh...

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

TRIP

No, uhh... Brenda, we just need to get this all under control, that's what we need...

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

TRIP

Christ, Brenda, stop it with that stuff!

BRENDA

Okay.

TRIP

You know, let's -- let's talk about Grace. -- (interrupted)

(BRENDA comforts grace.)

(BRENDA comforts grace.)

GRACE

Oh, Brenda, thanks, but, what we need right now is to just get all this out in the open...

(BRENDA picks up a trinket 7.)

TRIP

Look, let's talk about us both, not just one of us.

GRACE

Trip, you just pretend to like all this stuff... fancy cigars, and fine wine...

(BRENDA puts down a trinket 7.)

TRIP

You think I'm not good enough...!

GRACE

I never said that! I'm saying there's more to you than all this...

BRENDA

RING...

TRIP

Yeah, I -- I have good taste...! I know about... mmm... wines... and stuff!

GRACE

Ugh. -- (interrupted)

BRENDA

Oh, my phone

TRIP

Okay, I've had enough of this bullshit!!

TRIP

Brenda, I know what you're hinting at...

BRENDA

I go to the kitchen on sec.

TRIP

about us...

TRIP

about our lifestyle...

TRIP

Do you really want the truth? Huh?

TRIP

Brenda, are you ready to hear it?

(BRENDA picks up the phone.)

TRIP

Grace, huh?

GRACE

Yes...!

BRENDA

NO!

TRIP

Brenda, see I've actually been paying close attention to what you've been saying.

TRIP

You've been pushing me tonight.

TRIP

And I wonder, are you really my friend or not.

GRACE

Trip!

BRENDA

NO! STOP!

TRIP

Brenda, Quit interrupting me, let me finish!

TRIP

Brenda, come on -- yes or no...

TRIP

Do you really think that...

TRIP

kissing me...

BRENDA

Yes.

TRIP

not defending me when I asked you if I was to blame...

TRIP

suggesting that we get divorced...

TRIP

but especially what you said about saying 'yes' to the other person...

BRENDA

Yes

TRIP

and you don't even say 'yes' when I ask you if you want the truth...

TRIP

Wait, Brenda, let me finish!

TRIP

that we'll somehow realize something about our marriage?

TRIP

Is all of that arguing intended to mean something, or...

TRIP

Is it? I just want a yes or no.

BRENDA

Yes.

TRIP

Okay.

TRIP

Grace...

TRIP

uhh...

TRIP

See... I'm... ashamed of my parents.

GRACE

What!? Your parents are great.

GRACE

I love seeing them...

TRIP

I know, I know. But compared to yours... they're so ... ignorant.

GRACE

But they're real. I hate how my parents are pretending to be something --

TRIP

I've tried hard to be like your family --

GRACE

Trip... really? ... I don't --

TRIP

But I feel like a phony. I feel like I can never get rid of my past.

BRENDA

I call my mum.

TRIP

It's kind of like I don't know who I am anymore.

TRIP

uhh...

GRACE

uhh...

GRACE

Oh my God...!

(BRENDA puts down the phone.)

GRACE

Brenda, I, uhh...

TRIP

This changes everything...

GRACE

Yes, it does change everything.

GRACE

I think it's over.

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

TRIP

Grace, w -- what --

(BRENDA comforts trip.)

GRACE

No!!

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

GRACE

It's over, Trip, don't you see that?

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

TRIP

Wha... I -- I just told you --

GRACE

You just told me something about us you should have said a long time ago:

GRACE

You're really ashamed of your past... and you wish you had mine...

(BRENDA sits on the couch.)

GRACE

And no, Brenda, hold on...

TRIP

Grace, no, I... y -- you...

(BRENDA gets up from the couch.)

GRACE

No, Trip, this isn't about you, or me, it's about us...

GRACE

Our marriage. I see that now.

TRIP

Us...? Our -- our marriage...? Wha... hey, no, wait!

GRACE

Brenda, I'm sorry. But thank you, you -- you really helped us.

TRIP

Grace!

BRENDA

ehy!

(Grace opens the front door.)

TRIP

Grace!!

(Grace closes the front door.)

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

TRIP

Jesus Christ...

BRENDA

D:

(BRENDA hugs trip.)

TRIP

I should have told her that...

TRIP

I -- I could have told her that...

BRENDA

I'm sorry... I love you Trip.

TRIP

Oh ... Brenda...

(BRENDA kisses trip.)

So! Drinks!

KIM

I CAN CALL MY PUSHER?

(Trip closes the front door.)

TRIP

How about a martini?

TRIP

Uh, well, you know what, I'm just going to make you a martini.

KIM

MARTINI!!!

GRACE

Kim, I think you'd prefer something simple and light, like a nice glass of chardonnay, yes?

(KIM puts down the phone.)

TRIP

Okay! Good! I'll just whip up these bad boys real quick!

KIM

MARTINI!

TRIP

Oh, yeah, you know, I -- I think I'll fix us another drink in not too long...

Alright Grace, your drink is ready.

(KIM sits on the couch.)

GRACE

Thanks.

TRIP

Look, let's not focus on just me or you, let's talk about us both.

GRACE

Kim, you -- you blame me for all this, don't you?

TRIP

See, Grace, you're the one turning this into such a big issue.

TRIP

In fact I saved you from wasting your life as an artist.

GRACE

What? Oh my God.

GRACE

Kim, is that true, all of this is my fault? -- (interrupted)

KIM

TRUE

GRACE

(KIM opens the front door.)

TRIP

Okay, that's it, no more of this bullshit!!

(KIM knocks on the front door.)

(KIM closes the front door.)

TRIP

Kim, I know what you're trying to hint at...

TRIP

about me...

TRIP

about our marriage...

TRIP

Do you two want the truth? Huh?

KIM

ABOUT YOU

TRIP

Kim, do you want to hear it?

TRIP

Grace, huh?

GRACE

Yes...!

TRIP

Kim, well?

KIM

YES?

TRIP

No, Kim, just, yes or no, do you want to hear the truth?

KIM

YES

TRIP

See, Kim, I've been paying attention to what you've been saying tonight.

TRIP

You've really been pushing me tonight.

KIM

YOU PAY ME?

TRIP

And I wonder, are you really my friend or not.

GRACE

Trip!

(KIM picks up a Trip's drink.)

TRIP

Kim, Quit interrupting me, let me speak!

(KIM puts down a Trip's drink.)

TRIP

Kim, come on -- yes or no...

TRIP

Do you really think that...

KIM

YES

TRIP

praising me...

TRIP

criticizing me...

TRIP

and what you said about giving advice to your wife...

KIM

YES

TRIP

No, Kim, let me finish!

TRIP

that all that is supposed to help me understand something about myself?

TRIP

Is all of that arguing intended to mean something, or...

TRIP

Is it? I just want a yes or no.

KIM

YES

TRIP

Right.

TRIP

Grace...

TRIP

uhh...

TRIP

I've been having an affair.

GRACE

Oh my God.

TRIP

It's over now, though.

GRACE

But how could you --

TRIP

(big sigh) with the client, in, uh, Barcelona.

GRACE

Maria.

TRIP

I was lonely, Grace.

KIM

MARIA?

TRIP

But, but, I -- I regret it, I really, really regret it.

TRIP

uhh...

GRACE

GRACE

I'm going to give you the truth too, Trip.

KIM

(KIM picks up a Grace's drink.)

(KIM sits on the couch.)

GRACE

(KIM puts down a Grace's drink.)

(KIM gets up from the couch.)

TRIP

You've been secretly painting? When --

KIM

GRACE

It's over, Trip, don't you see that?

KIM

GRACE?

TRIP

Wha... but you just said --

(KIM comforts grace.)

GRACE

I just told you something about me I should have said a long time ago:

GRACE

I am an artist -- but you can't see that.

GRACE

And no, Kim, hold on...

TRIP

Yes, and like I said...

TRIP

I cheated on you. I betrayed you.

KIM

YES

TRIP

And no, Kim, please, it's -- it's okay...

TRIP

Grace, no, I... we...

GRACE

See, Trip, this is about me, as a person... and about you as a person... but it's --

KIM

NOT!

GRACE

not about us, about our marriage. I see that now...

TRIP

Us...? Our -- our marriage...? Wha... hey, no, wait!

GRACE

Kim, I'm sorry. But thank you, you -- you really helped me.

KIM

GRACE

TRIP

Grace!

(Grace opens the front door.)

TRIP

Grace!!

(Grace closes the front door.)

TRIP

Jesus Christ...

KIM

SORRY :(

TRIP

I should have told her that...

KIM

I LOVE GRACE :)

(KIM comforts trip.)

TRIP

I -- I could have told her that...

(KIM kisses trip.)

Oh my God... you think I'm to blame... I'm to blame for all this! -- (interrupted)

GRACE

Yes?

GRACE

Uhh, this is too much, I can't take this... -- (interrupted)

KIM

YES

GRACE

Yes?

GRACE

No, just leave me alone for a second, I don't want to... uhh...

(KIM knocks on the front door.)

(KIM opens the front door.)

TRIP

Okay, that's it, no more of this bullshit!!

(KIM knocks on the front door.)

(KIM closes the front door.)

TRIP

Kim, I know what you're trying to hint at...

TRIP

about me...

TRIP

about our marriage...

TRIP

Do you two want the truth? Huh?

KIM

ABOUT YOU

TRIP

Kim, do you want to hear it?

TRIP

Grace, huh?

GRACE

Yes...!

TRIP

Kim, well?

KIM

YES?

TRIP

No, Kim, just, yes or no, do you want to hear the truth?

KIM

YES

TRIP

See, Kim, I've been paying attention to what you've been saying tonight.

TRIP

You've really been pushing me tonight.

KIM

YOU PAY ME?

TRIP

And I wonder, are you really my friend or not.

GRACE

Trip!

(KIM picks up a Trip's drink.)

TRIP

Kim, Quit interrupting me, let me speak!

(KIM puts down a Trip's drink.)

TRIP

Kim, come on -- yes or no...

TRIP

Do you really think that...

KIM

YES

TRIP

praising me...

TRIP

criticizing me...

TRIP

and what you said about giving advice to your wife...

KIM

YES

TRIP

No, Kim, let me finish!

TRIP

that all that is supposed to help me understand something about myself?

TRIP

Is all of that arguing intended to mean something, or...

TRIP

Is it? I just want a yes or no.

KIM

YES

TRIP

Right.

TRIP

Grace...

TRIP

uhh...

TRIP

I've been having an affair.

GRACE

Oh my God.

TRIP

It's over now, though.

GRACE

But how could you --

TRIP

(big sigh) with the client, in, uh, Barcelona.

GRACE

Maria.

TRIP

I was lonely, Grace.

KIM

MARIA?

TRIP

But, but, I -- I regret it, I really, really regret it.

TRIP

uhh...

GRACE

uhh...

KIM

WHO IS MARIA?

GRACE

Oh my God...!

TRIP

Kim, I --

GRACE

I'm going to give you the truth too, Trip.

KIM

IS A DRUGS?

TRIP

What?!

GRACE

I painted this.

TRIP

Bullshit.

(KIM picks up a Grace's drink.)

(KIM sits on the couch.)

GRACE

I am an artist, Trip, fuck you.

(KIM puts down a Grace's drink.)

(KIM gets up from the couch.)

TRIP

You've been secretly painting? When --

KIM

WHAT?

GRACE

Everytime you go on a goddamn business trip, I paint.

GRACE

So don't EVER give me any more of your 'you could never be an artist' crap!!

TRIP

Jesus --

KIM

IS NOT FUNNY

GRACE

uhh...

TRIP

uhh...

TRIP

Jesus...!

KIM

MOVE ON

TRIP

Kim, I, uhh...

(KIM comforts trip.)

TRIP

This changes everything...

GRACE

Yes, it does change everything.

KIM

WHAT?

GRACE

I think it's over.

(KIM comforts grace.)

TRIP

Grace, w -- what --

GRACE

No!!

GRACE

It's over, Trip, don't you see that?

KIM

GRACE?

TRIP

Wha... but you just said --

(KIM comforts grace.)

GRACE

I just told you something about me I should have said a long time ago:

GRACE

I am an artist -- but you can't see that.

GRACE

And no, Kim, hold on...

TRIP

Yes, and like I said...

TRIP

I cheated on you. I betrayed you.

KIM

YES

TRIP

And no, Kim, please, it's -- it's okay...

TRIP

Grace, no, I... we...

GRACE

See, Trip, this is about me, as a person... and about you as a person... but it's --

KIM

NOT!

GRACE

not about us, about our marriage. I see that now...

TRIP

Us...? Our -- our marriage...? Wha... hey, no, wait!

GRACE

Kim, I'm sorry. But thank you, you -- you really helped me.

KIM

GRACE

TRIP

Grace!

(Grace opens the front door.)

TRIP

Grace!!

(Grace closes the front door.)

TRIP

Jesus Christ...

KIM

SORRY :(

TRIP

I should have told her that...

KIM

I LOVE GRACE :)

(KIM comforts trip.)

TRIP

I -- I could have told her that...

(KIM kisses trip.)
